Filipino Doctor from Melbourne Speaks About VCO

October 20, 2006

Dr. Nestor Fuertes, a highly respected Filipino medical practitioner in Melbourne, Australia, recently visited his homeland, the Philippines, to share his experience about Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) as used by his patients in Australia.

In the local morning television show Magandang Umaga Pilipinas aired on September 22, 2006, Dr. Fuertes discussed the many health benefits of VCO. Asked about common illnesses where VCO can be of help, Dr. Fuertes cited diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, and obesity.

Against obesity, Dr. Fuertes explained that “VCO increases metabolism to help easily burn food taken; VCO’s lypolitic effect helps dissolve or burn fats in the body which contribute to significant weight loss.”

In another health show on, Salamat Doc, aired on September 24, 2006, Dr. Fuertes talked about the health risks associated with obesity: hypertension, coronary artery disease, and cancer to name a few. Additionally, he mentioned that excess weight puts extra pressure on a person’s joints which can post a lot of health problems. Studies show that MCT’s are easily converted to energy. MCT’s increase metabolism, which gives a feeling of satiety that helps reduce food intake and makes one feel warm because of the excess energy or what is called the thermogenesis effect that burn or dissolve fats.

“VCO does not increase cholesterol level. In fact, there is a study conducted by a University in Canada for VCO on weight gain/weight loss benefit. The study showed that there was a reduction on cholesterol level. This incident was because the bad cholesterol known as LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) was reduced. However, the good cholesterol known as HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) has increased. HDL functions to cleanse our veins; LDL on the other hand are the ones that clog the veins...”
