Splash History: An Overview
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
1985
» Dr. Rolando Hortaleza and Dr. Rosalinda Ang-Hortaleza got married after graduating from medical school. The enterprising couple plunked P12,000 in start-up capital; this was cash they had pooled together from money they received as wedding gifts.
P5,000 of which was used to purchase a special cuticle remover from a cousin and the rest for an initial inventory of acetone, cuticle remover, amber bottles and packaging materials to start a repacking business.
» RBH Cosmetics, a backyard enterprise that packaged and distributed acetone, cuticle remover, and cold wave lotion to neighborhood beauty parlors, was established.
1986
» RBH Cosmetics was renamed Hortaleza Cosmetics.
» First year revenues amounted to a little over PhP 100,000.00.
1987

» Hortaleza Cosmetics became Splash Cosmetics

» Splash made its first PhP 1 million in sales with Splash hair spray.
1988
» Splash invested in low budget TV commercials using slides.
CHALLENGING THE BIG BOYS
1989
» Splash launched another innovative product – All Natural Extract Facial Cleanser with avocado and cucumber variants, the first facial cleanser based on natural ingredients.
» In August 1989, Splash Cosmetics started advertising Extract with celebrity endorsers.
» Splash achieved PhP40 million in sales.
1991
» Splash Cosmetics became Splash Manufacturing Corporation
BREAKING THE GLASS CEILING
1991
» Splash launched Extraderm Exfoliant Plus, the first exfoliant astringent to be made available in retail outlets in the Philippines. Splash gave birth to a new category in the Philippine personal care market – the exfoliant category.
1992
» The Santiago plant was inaugurated.
» The exfoliant market grew by 77% with Extraderm as the market leader.
1993
» Through informal network of Overseas Filipino Workers and later through dealers, Splash entered the Asian market such as HongKong, Singapore and Indonesia.
» Splash pioneered in skin whitening initially through Extraderm.
1994
» Splash went for higher visibility with well-known celebrity endorsers in big budget TV commercials.
1996

» Blessing of the Lazaro Warehouse
» Splash was brought to international markets such as Bahrain, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia by local dealers.
» Splash hit the P1 Billion sales mark.
1997
» Splash Research Institute and Splash Foundation, Inc. were established.
» Splash Holdings, Inc. was established.
» Extraderm posted its highest growth of 211.14% in 1997.
» The 18th Agora Awards honored Dr. Rolando B. Hortaleza for Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship (Large Scale).
TRANSFORMATION AND SUSTAINABILITY
1998

» Splash hit P2 Billion sales mark and made it to the Top 300 companies in the Philippines.
» Splash enters the Oman and Qatar market through dealers.
» Splash International, Inc. was established to seek, plan, create and implement strategies for the global expansion of the corporation.
1999

» The Gerry Roxas Foundation, TOYM Foundation and the Philippine Jaycees chose Dr. Rolando B. Hortaleza as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of 1999 for Entrepreneurship.
» Splash University was established.
» Splash launched SkinWhite which became the leading brand in skin whitening category.
2000
» Splash received its ISO 9002 certification from SGS Philippines, Inc. International Services, a member of the Societe Generale de Surveillance International Group, giving Splash the “tangible” seal of a true global company.
» PT Splash Indonesia was launched in Jakarta before the Indonesian business community.
2001
» Splash Manufacturing became Splash Corporation.
2002

» Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated the P400 million fully automated Canumay plant in Valenzuela.
» Splash generated PhP3 Billion in sales.
» Euromonitor ranked Splash number six (6) in the cosmetics and toiletries industry, the only Filipino company in the Top 10.
2003
» The Manila Times bestowed Dr. Rosalinda A. Hortaleza, the Jose P. Rizal Award for excellence in the field of Management Finance in ceremonies hosted by the federation of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
» Former President Corazon Aquino inaugurated Splash Corporations P40 Million state-of-the-art SRI Facility.
» Splash invested P150 Million for the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning system from SAP.
2004

» Splash Corporation launched another top-selling brand – Biolink.
» Splash was referred to as “the pride of the Filipino in the personal care industry” by Euromonitor, a noted industry publication in one of its articles.

» Maxipeel and Extraderm dominated the exfoliant market.
» Skin White maintained leadership in skin whitening.
2005
» Splash marked its 20th Anniversary.
2007

» Splash was listed in Philippine Stock Exchange.
