On Feb. 22, 2015, Sunday, 52 kids enrolled in our Interactive Literacy Program (ILP), together with the Ate, Kuya volunteers had their first provincial educational field trip to Gardenia Bakeries (Philippines) in Binan, Laguna and then to Nuvali Park in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
At Gardenia, the ILP kids had a tour around the plant where they first viewed a film, showing the different processes how the bread is made: from Dough mixing to Dividing to Rounding to Intermediate Proofing to Moulding to Spiral Cooling to Slicing to Bagging and finally, Packing. Not touched by human hands, Gardenia produces 6,000 loaves of bread an hour!

After the Gardenia trip, the tour proceeded to the Nuvali Park in Sta Rosa, Laguna where the group had time to enjoy the park and to process their learnings from the Gardenia plant tour.
The kids were assigned to work as a team to share their learnings.

Just as the sun was setting, so it was also time for the ILP kids to prepare for home, and say THANK YOU to our most patient Ate’s & Kuya’s who took care of us, though some of us had motion sickness and plastic bags were no more to be found; though some of us had fever and we had to take some paracetamol; some of us just wanted to run around and they had to come looking for us; some of us were treated with some goodies from the nearby 7-11 store… IT WAS TRULY A WONDERFUL DAY!!
