AHFI Supports DSWD Program

Ang∙Hortaleza Foundation’s Managing Director, Maurice P. Ligot signs a Memorandum of Understanding with DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman in support to the 4 P’s: Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the government.

The 4P’s is a conditional cash transfer program that provides incentive for poor families to invest in their future by ensuring that mothers and their children avail of healthcare and that their children go to school.

Together with this program, AHFI will conduct its livelihood skills training in basic cosmetology, Ganda Mo, Hanapbuhay Ko (GMHK) to beneficiaries and communities identified by the DSWD.

The GMHK-1 provides a 5-day skills training to women, preferably unemployed, and teach them the basic techniques in male and female haircutting, hair coloring, hot-oil application, footspa, manicure and pedicure. They are required to bring a model daily for a hands-on application. On their graduation day, the participants are given a certificate and a starter kit as an incentive for them to do home service and become self-reliant.

As a sign of reciprocity for the free training, the graduates render free haircut to the children in the community after their graduation.

To follow-up on the success of the program, AHFI conducts “Kamusta Na” to the graduates, 2 months after the graduation. A focus group discussion is conducted where the graduates share their testimonies and earnings in the practice of their newly acquired skills.

The TESDA certified, GMHK skills training will start with the 4P’s beneficiaries by May, 2012..
