Registered in Aug. 6, 1997, SPLASH FOUNDATION INC. as the social development arm of health care and consumer goods giant Splash Corporation, has been in the forefront of corporate social responsibility, providing livelihood, health and educational programs, community service and volunteer work that benefit not only the City of Valenzuela but beyond, reaching out to the whole nation as well.

Registered in August 6, 1997, SFI has been an expression of commitment of the founders Dr. Rolando and Dr. Rosalinda Ang-Hortaleza in helping the economically disadvantaged and way of giving back to society, something of enduring value.

SFI SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Further to founders’ commitment, the Splash Foundation Inc. Social Development Center has been put up on July 2004, in Valenzuela City as the venue for its programs and seat of involvement in the community. The SFI SDC houses modern equipment in the conduct of its programs such as the Livelihood training, Interactive Literacy program and Community Service.

OVERVIEW OF PROGRAM AND SERVICES

LIVELIHOOD TRAINING PROGRAM

The program promotes self-reliance, productivity and local entrepreneurship through income-generating livelihood programs. It is composed of three courses: Ganda Mo, Hanapbuhay Ko I – Cosmetology, Ganda Mo, Hanapbuhay Ko II – Basic Facial Cleaning and Ganda Mo, Hanapbuhay Ko III – Hair Relaxing & Straightening. (GMHK II & III are done at the SFI Social Development Center)

The Cosmetology (GMHK I) course is a six (6) day comprehensive course where the participants are taught the basic techniques on hair cutting styles, hair coloring, hot oil, manicure/pedicure, permanent hair winding and foot spa. Aside from the acquired skills, the graduates are issued a certificate of completion and starter kit as an incentive for them to become self reliant through home service. An outreach activity “Libreng Gupit” is conducted by the graduates as a sign of reciprocity for the free training.

The Basic Facial Cleaning (GMHK II) course is an additional skills training where they will learn basic techniques in face massage and facial cleaning that includes removal of whiteheads and blackheads. The participants of this course are the graduates of Cosmetology I.

The launched of Hair Relaxing & Straightening (GMHK III) is due to the demand of modern genre of hair styling. It is also an additional skills training for the graduates of GMHK I & II where they will learn the procedure and techniques on hair relaxing, straightening & analyzing of hair textures, types and condition. This is a five day comprehensive training.

A follow through program called Kumusta Na, is administered two months after the graduation for each course in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The Taas Noo, Educational Assistance program provides scholarship grant to poor but deserving college students taking up undergraduates studies Pharmacy, Cosmetic Science and other related courses. Beneficiaries are enrolled in institutions such as the University of the Philippines, the University of Sto. Tomas, and Centro Escolar University. Benefits include free tuition and other school related fees and a monthly stipend.

The Karunungan, Kaunlaran ng Bayan is an Interactive Literacy Program (ILP) where children are currently enrolled in a multi-grade, non formal mode of education with structured curriculum at the Splash Foundation Inc. Social Development Center (SFI SDC), which serves as the seat of involvement for community service of SFI in Valenzuela City. The ILP includes lessons on Reading, Comprehension, Writing for Grades 1 - 3 while lessons on Math, Science and English are for Grades 4 - 6. Values formation and educational field trips are also included.

The ILP include three components: The Child, The Parent & The Teacher

The Adult Literacy Program is also extended to the ILP parents. The objective of this program is to help them enhance cognitive, spiritual, social and emotional aspects. It covers academic tutorial & values formation activities like parent effectiveness seminar, health awareness seminars, spiritual enrichment, team building, environmental sanitation seminar and livelihood training.

The Teachers’ Training Development Program is a venue to strengthen collaborations and partnership with the teachers of Valenzuela City. The objective is to assist the teachers improve teaching styles and approaches in basic computer education. The six day training includes application of computer software programs such as word, excel, power point presentation and the use of internet. The participants get a certificate and cd’s as reference manual.

CHILD HOSPITALIZATION ASSISTANCE AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

The Child Hospitalization Assistance and Management Program provides free medicines and laboratory requirements to pediatric patients confined at the charity wards of three beneficiary hospitals: the Philippine General Hospital, the East Avenue Medical Center, and the Valenzuela General Hospital. Called Lunas-Sakit, the program covers free supply of prescribed medicines from the day of referral until the day of discharge which may take a period of two weeks to one month. A nurse from SFI also conducts bi-weekly visits to follow up on patients’ development.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

This program consists of the following activities like Free Use of Computer, Internet & Library, Surgical & Dental Mission & Adopt A School Project (Free Use of Classrooms). Supplemental Feeding is also included.

The Free Use of Computer & Internet was designed to help the students in the community (who do not have computers) perform their school assignments where a computer is required.

The Free Use of Library aims to aid the students in the community do research and borrow reference book for their school projects.

The Adopt A School Project aims to allow Canumay West Elementary School to use the classrooms and other facilities of SFI for free. At present the 650 grades 3 & 4 pupils of Canumay West Elementary School is now occupying the facilities.

The Surgical and Dental Mission aims to reach out children and adult availed free surgical and tooth extraction. Medicines are also provided with the beneficiaries. This is a once a year activity organize and spearheaded by the SFI College Scholars.

The Supplemental Feeding attends to decrease the increasing number of experiencing iron deficiency anemia that blockage the growth of the children. The program runs for six month that includes activities like deworming, operation timbang, medical check-up, mothers’ class and actual feeding. The Program extended to twenty-four ILP beneficiaries.

SFI collaborates with National Nutrition Council and City Health Office of Valenzuela City in implementing this endeavor.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

SFI was among the 20 non-government organizations cited by the former President Corazon Aquino’s People Power Movement for providing a “sense of hope, empowerment and love of country to a higher goal of empowerment and commitment.” The city government of Valenzuela also recognized SFI as the Best Corporate Foundation for 2004, while the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) awarded SFI the “Child-friendly Organization” in 2007.
