To make classrooms more conducive to learning, the Department of Education launched Brigada Eskwela (BE) that aspires to gather parents, students, individuals from the community, to work together as volunteers in repairing, restoring and beautifying classrooms. With its repair, it also aims to extend the lifespan of the currently used school building and its fixtures into the next generation and on.
The selfless efforts of the volunteers demonstrate the “Filipino bayanihan” of working together without expecting any material return, except for the feeling of fulfillment of helping out in programs of lasting value.

Espousing DepEd’s activity, Splash Foundation, Inc. joined the BE kick-off caravan on June 2, that started at 6:30 in the morning, headed by DepEd Sec. Jesli Lapus together with other members of the League of Corporate Foundation, LGU’s
and other school organizations.
Further to the support to DepEd, SFI along with volunteers from Splash Corporation worked together in restoring 5 classrooms of the Canumay West Elementary School in San Diego St., Valenzuela City. About 29 volunteers helped in brushing and painting walls, cleaned wall fans, repaired leaking roof, replaced wooden ceiling, fixed armchairs and did other odd jobs.
MEN @ WORK!!! MEN @ WORK!!!
Among those who committed their services were Grace del Rosario of RAD, Nina Eusebio, Annalyn de Asis, Tina Espiritu and Leslie Pimenta, all from SRI. Engineering machos that include Lorenz Avendaño, Francis Gapate, German Escobar, Willy Sandoval, Jimmy Leron, Original Magno and WAD boys Vic Zamudio, Robert Peña, helped by boys from Alert and TSI also did the hard work. SFI scholars Leeland dela Luna and Sheila Garcia also joined the group in painting jobs.
There was a division of labor like the girls did cleaning of wall fans, light painting jobs while the men did hard jobs like carpentry, roof leaks, painting of walls and ceiling, among others.
Smiles were seen from the faces of the volunteers when they saw the 5 classrooms, all made up and were proud that they have done a good job that would also make 800 children from Grades 1 and 2 happy, who would occupy these classrooms when school opens.
One very memorable moment for Boyet Francisco from TSI, who was also celebrating his birthday on that day, found time to volunteer and repair some chairs, which he said were the same chairs he also used while in this school. Remembering his youth and his schooldays, he said in Filipino, it was payback time to his teachers and his alma mater.
